Enabling environment
Somali journalists and media professional work in a difficult post conflict environment. The Somali context lags supportive and enabling environment. Together with our partners, we work with government to develop legal frameworks that respect and protect the fundamental right of freedom of expression and access to information. We support in translating these laws in policies and procedures. We bring together diverse stakeholders to ensure that journalism is not seen as crime.
Self-regulatory based media landscape
We work with journalists, media associations and government institutions to take control of their on field. Journalists and media professional have responsibilities to work ethically and adhere to professional standards. We work with media houses and media associations to establish self-regulatory mechanisms that enable an environment of independent media. We support media houses internalise this by introduce new practices and procedures.
Sustainable and responsive media
We strive for a media that is editorially independent, free from financial interference or political influence. The Somali media has to do this in an ever-expanding media where the sustainability of traditional media is increasingly challenged. We offer the Somali media houses and media professionals’ access to new technology and practises to survive and stay relevant.
